The Małopolska Region Days will end with the concert of Zakopower, which will take place on 21st September in Ancienne Belgique. The music of the group, described as folk rock, cannot be classified easily. It is inspired by the traditional music of Podhale (a mountainous region in the south of Poland) and includes elements of rock, jazz and even African beats, which creates an authentic, unique and extremely explosive mixture. The musical energy is the hallmark of Zakopower, as reflected by the band’s name, which is also a wordplay referring to the name of the winter capital city of Poland – Zakopane – located in the Tatra mountains.
The charismatic lead singer, Sebastian Karpiel-Bułecka, just like most of members of the group, comes from the Podhale region and identifies himself strongly with its culture. Zakopower’s repertoire includes characteristic highlander rhythms and traces of traditional songs, but thanks to original compositions and arrangements they achieve distinctively contemporary sound. Zakopower uses traditional, folk instruments (violin, basses) alongside trumpets, guitars, synthesizers, drums and expressive vocals.
Free admission after registration and collecting tickets in Ancienne Belgique.
